Munich Munich is Germany's third largest city, located South in Bavaria, close to Switzerland. Home of the Oktoberfest, the Hofbräuhaus (Beer Hall), Bretzel (Pretzels), Weißwürste (white sausages) and Weissbier (Wheat Beer). A trip to Munich is not complete without beer and sausages, and if visiting in summer, try them all at one of 20 Beergardens. When you fly with Austrian Airlines to Munich, you can visit one of the world's most liveable cities. Take the S1 or S8 to downtown (Marienplatz or Hauptbahnhof). Highlights include the New Town Hall at Marienplatz (don't forget to watch the Glockenspiel storytale at 11 am) and the twin-tower Frauenkirche. A trip to the 'Deutsches Museum' is worthwhile, situated on an island in the Isar River. On a free evening, enjoy one of Munich's cultural attractions, such as a concert or theatre performance: Munich is home to many of the greatest musician and writers.
