Donetsk is the largest city in Eastern Ukraine and is situated on the Kalmius River. If you fly with Austrian Airlines to Donetsk, you can experience the 'real' Ukraine. Donetsk lies in the steppe landscape, and is therefore surrounded by scattered woodland, hills, rivers and lakes. Hiking and exploring the region by bike are definitely two options that should be considered. Otherwise, the city Donetsk itself offers a very unique architecture that is worth exploring.
