Syria is primarily an interesting holiday destination because of its colourful cultural history. Ras Samra near Lataika is famous for its impressive royal palace and 3000 years old temples. The oasis city of Palmyra which reminds of Roman times is located in the middle of the country: here one can find temples, theatres and a columned street. The world-famous Umayyaden Mosque in Damascus, the capital of Syria, was built approx. 700 AC over a Greek Jupiter temple. The citadel of Aleppo is one of the most fascinating Arabian fortress buildings.
