Krakow

Krakow is the intellectual and cultural capital of Poland. It has the oldest and most prestigious university in the country. Located in the south of the country, Krakow lies on the banks of the Vistula river, and has about 750,000 inhabitants. You can fly with Austrian Airlines to Krakow, and then explore the various parts of the city. In 1978 the city was awarded the status of World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. Pope John-Paul II was archbishop of Krakow before he was named Pope. Due to a large student population, Krakow has a very interesting and multi-faceted nightlife, mostly taking place around the old, historic city center around St. Mary`s square, and the old Jewish part of town named Kazimierz.
