Donetsk

Donetsk is the largest city in Eastern Ukraine and is situated on the Kalmius River. If you fly with Austrian Airlines to Donetsk, you can experience the 'real' Ukraine. Donetsk lies in the steppe landscape, and is therefore surrounded by scattered woodland, hills, rivers and lakes. Hiking and exploring the region by bike are definitely two options that should be considered. Otherwise, the city Donetsk itself offers a very unique architecture that is worth exploring. The houses are mainly built in an English style, using rectangular and triangular shaped facades, green rooftops and very large windows. Wandering across the town makes you feel like you traveled back in time. As a final highlight the reconstructed Cathedral Transfiguration of Jesus can only be recommended.
